Color Matters

The fashion industry tends to take the lead on the trends (such as color, shape, fabric, motifs, etc) that you see trickle down to other design industries such as art, interior design, gift design, make-up lines, accessories, etc. It all starts with COLOR. It has been scientifically proven that color has a huge influence on how we feel about something, so of course it is a great motivator! Since Spring has sprung here in Seattle, there is nothing more exciting than new colors we can wear in our wardrobe. Remember, there are no strict rules; these are just guidelines!
I like to pair a color with a neutral. This is a chic way to ground the color. Neutral colors are great especially in pants, jackets, skirts. These colors are black, khaki, brown, grey, denim blue, white, etc. Colors predicted by Pantone (the color trendsetting king) at the start of the Spring 2010 New York Fashion week are Turquoise (#1 color), Dark Orangey Red, Coral, Violet, Beige (Pink and Grey tones), Yellow (greenish tinge), Cobalt Blue, Pink Champagne, and Khaki Green.

Spring Cleaning

Let me start of with one of my style philosophies I continue to follow today:

Be decidedly uncomplicated. Simplify. Simplify. Simplify. (that is, your wardrobe pieces AND how your closet is organized). That's right, you can cave into your desire to get that beautiful closet organizer; it will pay you back two-fold with not only money but your sanity to find what you have!

Now, this doesn't mean you have to be a boring dresser. In fact, it is quite the opposite! Start with great classic and flattering shapes for main pieces such as pants, skirts, jackets, and dresses and then add in the fun stuff that speaks more of your personality in trendy or interesting accessories such as belts, scarves, jewelry, etc. It's a lot like designing your home too. Classic items for the drapes, couch and rug and beef it up with personable accessories such as art, pillows, blankets, books, etc. Then your style becomes more decidedly your personality!

Easy enough, you say, but I'd like to help you do it right the first time. I'll update you with great must-have fashion pieces and its trends and help you simplify. This is so you can easily find your own everyday personal style and save lots of money along the way!

Cheers to the first day of blogging!!!
